In September, then House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas)said that there was nothing left in the federal budget to cut because "after 11 years of Republican majority, we've pared it down pretty good."

If the first task of any libertarian policy is to not increase the size of government, then opposing "No Child Left Behind" is a good, hard position to take.

Do you disagree with the idea that opposing a major expansion of government, such as the war in Iraq, a new drug benefit for Medicare, more federal control over education, or opposing a federal override of state medical marijuana laws, constitute hard positions?

Tom Delay has presided over a massive expansion of government. He has cut nothing. He has done nothing a libertarian can agree with. The fact that he believes the federal government has been "cut" shows how delusional most Republicans are. If any elected official consistently favored cutting government spending, regardless of party affiliation, then I believe a libertarian should be pleased.
