Anarchists in Denial

Libertarian Party members frequently rail against the state, yet most of them deny being anarchists. But if a person is hostile to “the state” and if a person cannot name a single useful purpose for the government, then that person is an anarchist. To deny this is either to be dishonest to the voters, or to be philosophically confused. I believe that these LP members suffer mainly from the latter.

The purpose of my post was not to argue for or against a theory of anarchy. It was to state that if you are an anarchist, you most likely reject the legitimacy of any government law or tax and believe that compliance is voluntary. This is an attitude that is unacceptable to the average voter and which therefore dooms the LP.

I'm not an anarchist, but I believe government needs to be limited to protecting the rights of the people.

Most self-described anarchists are actually members of leftist groups, not because they want no government, but because they want to destroy the one they have, and want to create a vacuum, where they can move in a claim total power.
