A Libertarian Party Member’s Worst Nightmare

A Libertarian Party member’s worst nightmare would be if Social Security were to be declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Why? Because if this were to happen, the American people, who strongly support this system, would simply amend the Constitution to allow (or perhaps even mandate) such a system. The amendment would probably even mandate all kinds of transfer payments to individuals. My point is: talking about the Constitution is of limited usefulness when engaging in politics, since if a policy is extremely popular, the Constitution can always be amended. If you want smaller government, you must convince people to vote for it. Nothing beats having a good majority.
