What Harry Never Asked

During his two Presidential campaigns, Harry Browne asked the voters, “Would you give up your favorite federal program if it meant you never had to pay federal income tax again?” But he never got around to asking, “Would you be willing to sacrifice in order to give the younger generation a better future?” He never asked, “Would you be willing to do your neighbor a favor and give him more freedom?” “Would you be willing to sacrifice in order to build an America that is more prosperous and more secure?” This is because LP members insisted that people are motivated by one thing only – selfishness – and never by compassion, a sense of responsibility, a sense of order, a desire for general prosperity, or a desire for security. And this belief prevented the LP from progressing.
